BUMN Mining Industry Holding Indonesia MIND ID targets electricity supply for the entire island of Sumatra as a commitment to realize national energy self-sufficiency.President Director of MIND ID, Maroef Sjamsoeddin said PLTU Tanjung Lalang, South Sumatra managed PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (HBAP), a subsidiary of strategic cooperation between PT Bukit Asam Tbk and China Huadian Group, has a capacity of 2x660 MW, and is currently still operating at the utilization level of around 50 percent.Maroef emphasized that with a large capacity and superior technology, the MIND ID Group targets HBAP to be at the forefront of being able to supply electricity needs throughout Sumatra."We have to have a big target, and we believe Bukit Asam and Huadian Group are able to make it happen," said Maroef in a statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Friday, April 11.Maroef said the power plant also reflects high standards in environmental management.PLTU Tanjung Lalang has been equipped with Flue Gas Susulfurization (FGD) technology which is able to reduce exhaust emissions below the threshold set by the government, making it one of the most environmentally friendly coal-based power plants in the region."PLTU MT Sumsel-8 is one of the largest mining mouth power plants in Southeast Asia. We are proud that its operations have used low-emission technology that supports the principle of sustainability," he said.Furthermore, Maroef emphasized that this effort is part of MIND ID's big strategy in optimizing national natural resource management.Through Bukit Asam, MIND ID Group currently manages a total coal resource of 5.8 billion tons, with reserves of 2.9 billion tons. All energy development initiatives are carried out to provide maximum benefits to the community and support the direction of national development. This reserve is also optimized to be able to supply energy needs used to run downstream programs in an effort to increase the added value of Indonesian minerals and coal.
