The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM is optimistic that the coal downstreaming project will begin to be realized next year. This confidence was expressed by the Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Todotua Pasaribu.Initially, Todotua revealed that coal downstream projects were no longer at the conceptual stage, but had entered the commercialization preparation stage."So, perhaps we can see in the next year that there will be a realization of what's called downstreaming in the coal commodity sector. The closest thing is, this will eventually become a coal-to-synthetic natural gas transition", he said on CNBC Indonesia, quoted on Monday (July 14, 2025).Todotua also hopes that this downstreaming program will allow Indonesia to boost domestic ammonia and methanol production. These two petrochemical products currently rely on imports.
