The Indonesian mining Industry Holding Company MIND ID continues to be a consistent driver of regional job creation. Through its strategic initiative of integrated aluminum downstreaming from upstream to downstream in Mempawah, West Kalimantan, the MIND ID Group has created approximately 3,130 new jobs in the region.Related economic sectors are expected to experience a significant multiplier effect in job creation, as the need for integrated partnerships across all business lines, from mining services and logistics to operations and regional MSMEs, expands.Following the initial injection of the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) Phase I in the second half of 2024, the MIND ID Group continues to develop integrated aluminum downstream processing from upstream to downstream. MIND ID is strengthening its integrated mining, bauxite processing, and alumina processing activities to produce aluminum in Mempawah, West Kalimantan. The direct workforce absorption from this strategic downstream initiative reached 3,130 people, consisting of approximately 1,000 people in SGAR Phase I, approximately 880 people in the construction phase of SGAR Phase II, approximately 1,000 people in the planning stage of the New Aluminum Smelter Plant, and approximately 250 people in the planning stage of the Washed Bauxite Facility.MIND ID Corporate Secretary , Pria Utama, explained that every downstreaming initiative aims not only to increase the added value of commodities but also to create real social value for the communities in which they operate. This aligns with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution, which mandates that natural resources must be managed for the greatest possible prosperity of the people, including through inclusive job creation."We believe that downstreaming should have a direct impact on the surrounding community. The jobs created are a concrete manifestation of MIND ID's mission to be a driver of inclusive and sustainable economic growth," Pria said in his statement on Monday (August 25, 2025).He also ensured that these strategic projects would continue to prioritize the recruitment of local workers from surrounding areas. Each hired worker would also participate in ongoing training and development programs to improve the capacity and competitiveness of the local workforce in the future."This will certainly also lay the foundation for long-term downstream development and industrialization in the region. This will ensure more sustainable value creation from the mining sector," he said.
