MIND ID reveals the major project of PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM) with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd alias CATL in the production of electric car batteries .MIND ID boss Hendi Prio Santoso noted that Indonesia's role in the world's nickel supply chain will reach 75 percent. He emphasized that this is very strategic and significant in the development of nickel for electric vehicle (EV) batteries."Mr. Nico (Antam President Director Nico Kanter) and his staff have succeeded in establishing cooperation with the largest EV battery factory in the world, called CATL," explained Hendi in a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Central Jakarta, Wednesday (4/12)."CATL is a supplier of Tesla batteries, Mercedes EVs, and BMW EVs," he said.Hendi emphasized that Antam and CATL will downstream nickel into electric vehicle batteries in the next five years. The process is from nickel to ferronickel, to mild hybrid vehicle (MHV), then to battery chemical.Antam's work is also one of MIND ID's priority programs in 2025. The state-owned mining company needs to build a rotary kiln electric furnace (RKEF) smelter and develop a high pressure acid leaching (HPAL) facility.He emphasized that HPAL needs to be developed to produce MHV, which will later become the raw material for electric car batteries."In the future, over the next five years, we will develop raw materials for EV battery materials. This means that we will make battery chemicals from limonite products from nickel mining," Hendi explained."We make it into MHV, then we mix it with other materials. The next step involves processing it into precursors, cathodes, battery cells, and ultimately into EV batteries, he concluded.
