Innovation and application of good mining practice principles in mining operational activities carried out by PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk ( SMGR ) has received appreciation from the international arena. The state-owned mining company won 15 awards at the 2023 Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC) in Beijing, China.
The award was donated by SMGR subsidiaries, including the Tuban Factory, PT Semen Padang, PT Semen Gresik, and PT Semen Tonasa. SIG Corporate Secretary, Vita Mahreyni, said that the innovation award at the international event was also proof of consistency and recognition of the innovation excellence of workers.
In the business world, innovation is like a vein that cannot be cut and must continue to beat because it is closely related to the continuity of a companys business. Apart from maintaining the quality of products and services, innovation opens up opportunities for business development, said Vita in a press release, Friday (10/11/2023).
More than that, innovation also supports the realization of operational excellence that pays attention to Occupational Health and Safety (K3) factors, as well as contributing to efficiency in operational costs, continued Vita.
He detailed that the Quarry mining Command Center (QMCC) innovation at the Tuban SIG Factory which was implemented in operations had helped the company ensure the implementation of good mining practice and K3 culture in mining operations. This well-run program makes mining operations more effective and efficient compared to direct supervision which requires a lot of coordination and time.
Vita said, QMCC ensures that field data needs are distributed in an actual and accurate manner so that decision making can be made quickly and precisely so that cost and quality targets can be optimal. In fact, the application of this innovation encourages zero fatalities and accidents in operations.
Since the implementation of QMCC in 2022 until now, the SIG Tuban Factory has also contributed to the efficiency of mining operational costs and raw materials worth IDR 4.2 billion per year, he said.
Another innovation from PT Semen Padang which started with damage to the Kiln Drive at the Indarung V Factory, which at that time had a limited information system, slowed down the repair process. For this reason, an innovation was created to detect interference called HMI Touch Screen Kiln Drive. By using application-based technology, this tool is able to detect interference in less than 1 minute.
Previously, it could take up to 4 hours for information to be known about a disturbance, because only 1 alarm was detected. Of course, this disruption results in production losses. With this innovation, every disturbance can be detected in less than 1 minute.
Thanks to this innovation, companies receive benefits of up to IDR 1.3 billion per year. This benefit is calculated based on down time caused by disruption from the Kiln Drive, he explained.
