MIND ID has begun expanding its global business footprints by exploring strategic cooperation in the mineral sector with Kazakhstan.This step is part of the efforts to strengthen Indonesia's position in the global mineral industry chain while accelerating the national downstreaming program.An official visit was made by the President Director of MIND ID, Maroef Sjamsoeddin, to Astana, Kazakhstan, on April 13, 2026.During the agenda, MIND ID met with Tau-Ken, the Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna, and the giant mining company Eurasian Resources Group (ERG).In addition to technical meetings, the delegation also visited ERG's alumina and aluminum smelter facilities in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan.In the meeting with ERG, both parties discussed a number of strategic collaboration opportunities to support the development of Indonesia's mineral industry.There were at least six main sectors discussed, including:● Mineral exploration● Mineral processing●Bauxite-to-aluminum downstreaming strategies●Research and development (R&D)●Technology exchange●Marketing cooperationThe President Director of MIND ID, Maroef Sjamsoeddin, considers Kazakhstan a potential partner because it possesses industrial characteristics similar to Indonesia.“This exploratory visit is a concrete step by MIND ID to fulfill the government's mandate to become a global player. Together with ERG and Samruk-Kazyna, we see significant opportunities in developing the bauxite-to-aluminum value chain, processing critical minerals, and other minerals,” Maroef said.He added that the exploratory cooperation is focused on strengthening technology exchange, research, market access, and investment to support mineral downstreaming in Indonesia.Diplomatic Support for Indonesia-KazakhstanThe Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, M. Fadjroel Rachman, emphasized that the Indonesian government fully supports MIND ID's expansion moves in Kazakhstan.According to Fadjroel, relations between Indonesia and Kazakhstan are now entering a more concrete phase of cooperation, especially following the signing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on December 21, 2025, in St. Petersburg, Russia.Furthermore, economic cooperation between the two countries is also bolstered through the Indonesia-Kazakhstan Joint Commission Meeting in Astana, led by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, alongside the Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan, Serik Zhumangarin.“The Indonesian Embassy in Astana fully supports this initiative by MIND ID. Kazakhstan is the gateway to energy, minerals, uranium, and wheat in Central Asia,” Fadjroel said.He assessed that the direct presence of MIND ID's management lineup demonstrates Indonesia's seriousness in building a strategic partnership with Kazakhstan, both through Samruk-Kazyna and ERG as major players in the global mineral industry.Fadjroel also revealed that the Indonesia-EAEU FTA is projected to increase new trade value by up to 10 billion US dollars or approximately IDR 164 trillion.Meanwhile, bilateral trade specifically between Kazakhstan and Indonesia is estimated to potentially reach 2 billion US dollars.“God willing, the next step will be a state visit by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, which will be accompanied by a business forum that has the potential to form the Indonesia-Kazakhstan Business Council,” Fadjroel stated.Through this exploratory cooperation, MIND ID hopes to accelerate the expansion of Indonesia's mineral industry into the global market, in line with the company's vision, “MIND ID for Indonesia and the World.”Collaboration with Kazakhstan is considered a strategic move to strengthen the mineral supply chain, accelerate downstreaming, and enhance Indonesia's competitiveness in the global mining industry.
