Gen. Richard Tampubolon. From the outset, the President has been committed to strengthening the downstreaming program. He is focused on ensuring minerals are no longer exported as raw materials but processed domestically into higher value-added products. The six smelters will be operated by PT Timah, with the expectation of boosting state revenue as well as locally generated revenue for the Bangka Belitung provincial government.Bangka Belitung Governor Hidayat Arsani expressed hope that President Prabowo’s visit would benefit local communities, noting that returning assets from the tin corruption case is a concrete step by the government to restore the state’s rights for the people. In this case, six private smelters were involved in purchasing and processing tin ore through to the reclamation stage. PT Timah did not conduct mining at the time; it purchased tin ore.The tin ore originated from illegal miners extracting from PT Timah’s licensed mining areas (IUP). Proceeds from sales were then distributed to various parties, including rogue elements within PT Timah, as compensation.
