PT Indominco Mandiri, a subsidiary of PT Indo Tambangraya Megah Tbk (ITMG), has set a coal production target of 7.30 million tons for 2025. This target is a revision upward from the initial plan of 6.9 million tons, but remains below the 2024 actual output of 7.35 million tons and above the 2023 figure of 6.46 million tons.Head of Mining at PT Indominco Mandiri, Eddy Susanto, explained that the production target was adjusted by taking into account the availability of coal reserves in the company’s three operating areas: East Kutai, Kutai Kartanegara, and Bontang in East Kalimantan.“Our reserves are indeed gradually depleting. Therefore, we need to manage our production target prudently,” Eddy said on Wednesday (September 24, 2025).Beyond reserves, Indominco is also considering post-production technical aspects such as reclamation and environmental restoration. The higher the production volume, the greater the reclamation responsibilities the company must undertake.Indominco’s coal Contract of Work (PKB2B), which has been in place since 1997, will expire in 2028. The company is therefore aiming for a smooth transition into the mine-closure phase.“In the end, we hope to achieve a soft landing as we enter the closure phase,” Eddy added. For 2026 and 2027, Indominco is targeting production of 8 million tons and 7.10 million tons, respectively. Although the contract period is nearing its end, the company plans to apply for an extension and convert the PKB2B into a Special Mining Business License (IUPK).This conversion is in line with the latest regulations—Law No. 3 of 2020 on Mineral and coal Mining—which introduced the IUPK as a new contractual framework for former PKB2B areas or state reserve areas.
