MIND ID Allocates USD 1.27 Billion for 2025 Capital Expenditure

State-owned mining holding company PT Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID) has allocated IDR 19.9 trillion, equivalent to approximately USD 1.27 billion, for its consolidated group's capital expenditure (capex) in 2025.During a hearing with Commission VI of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Thursday, March 13, 2025, MIND ID's Portfolio and Business Development Director, Dilo Seno Widagdo explained that these funds are necessary to execute this year's priority programs, particularly in the downstream mining sector, antaranews.com reported.In his presentation, Dilo outlined several priority programs for 2025. The first is the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) phases 1 and 2 for bauxite processing in Mempawah, West Kalimantan. This one-million-capacity refinery and smelter is operated by state-owned diversified miner PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) and state-owned aluminum producer PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum).The second project is Antam's project in East Halmahera, North Maluku, involving the construction of a rotary kiln electric furnace (RKEF) FHT smelter and a high-pressure acid leaching (HPAL) facility.The third priority is completing the repairs of gold and copper mining company PT Freeport Indonesia's copper smelter, which experienced a force majeure incident due to a fire in October 2024. He targets to restore the smelter by June 2025 and ramp up to full operation by the end of 2025.Dilo also mentioned that PT Freeport is currently developing a gas power plant in Papua, expected to be completed by the end of this year.Another priority project for this year is the expansion of the TE-Keramasan coal transportation system by state-owned coal miner PT Bukit Asam, which will increase its capacity to 20 million tons.Inalum will also undertake the construction of a new 600,000-ton capacity aluminum smelter.However, Dilo admitted several challenges in developing downstream commodities in Indonesia.
