PT Pongkeru Mineral Utama (PT Pomu) is expected to commence nickel mining at the Pongkeru Block, Malili District, East Luwu, in 2025, barring any unforeseen obstacles.PT Pomu is a joint venture between PT Antam—as the holder of the Pongkeru Block mining permit—and PT Sulsel Citra Indonesia (SCI) and PT Luwu Timur Gemilang (LTG). SCI is a South Sulawesi region-owned enterprise (BUMD), while LTG is a region-owned enterprise of East Luwu Regency. This joint venture will carry out mining activities in the Pongkeru Block Special mining Business License Area (WIUPK) pursuant to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree No. T-304/MB.04/MEM.B/2024. The Pongkeru Block covers 4,252 hectares.Acting President Director of PT Pomu, Hamzah Kurniadani, said the company is still processing several permits—environmental, forestry, and the exploration Work Plan and Budget (RKAB)—with the hope of completing them this year.“We hope exploration can proceed in 2025. It all depends on the permits. If the permits are issued quickly, activities can begin quickly,” Hamzah said on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.Hamzah added that thorough preparations are needed before mining begins, including ensuring the availability of equipment and human resources (HR).“We must not end up with complete equipment but unprepared HR—and vice versa. So we are preparing this carefully,” he explained.Hamzah also expressed his gratitude for the support of the regional government and the people of East Luwu for PT Pomu’s presence.“Once again, thank you very much for the support. We are ready to fulfill our commitments, including empowering local workers. We are committed to that—especially since one of the shareholders is a local from East Luwu, Saldy Mansyur, who sits on PT Pomu’s board of directors,” he said.
